About the Danscompany of Gainesville
The Danscompany of Gainesville, Inc., was formed in November 1983 to offer opportunities for performance to Gainesville area dancers. The company consists of Ballet, Jazz, and Modern groups featuring adults, youth, and children with more than 120 members. Membership is secured through competitive audition. The love of dance and a desire to perform motivated the members to spend long hours and to make personal sacrifices for its concerts.
Nina Kessler Cameron, Artistic Director of the Company, has been an Area Director of Dance Masters of America and the Director of the Florida competition for Mr. and Miss Dance. She has served as a faculty member of the State Dance Association and teaching assistant at Walt Disney World. Nina served as Convention Manager, second Vice President, President and now Past President of Florida Dance Masters, Inc. She has also been appointed to serve as an Area Director to the American Jazz Dance Council. As a former Artistic Director of the Junior and Apprentice groups of another local dance company she choreographed numerous dance pieces.
Nina has taught dance in Gainesville for 40 years. She opened her own studio Cameron Dancenter in September 1983. Nina continues her study of dance with numerous teachers by attending dance workshops nationwide. She is able to share the new developments in dance techniques with her students.
